The GPTE develops three main research axes around heat transfer, materials and energy recovery.
Part of the Solar Energy Laboratory, the Heat Transfer and Energy Phenomena Group studies the thermomechanical and thermophysical behavior of materials, the environmental quality of buildings and the thermal recovery of waste.
Research axes
Thermomechanical and thermophysical characterization of materials
Developing algorithms to identify the mechanical, thermal and physical properties of materials (polymers, PV materials) and experimental protocols for measuring thermal conductivity and diffusivity (tiles, bricks, insulators).
Improving the environmental quality of buildings
Bioclimatic design and passive cooling through hybrid photovoltaic-thermal (PV/T) collectors and green covers in the building envelope, for better hygro-thermal conditions in hot, humid climates.
Thermal recovery and treatment of household and cellulosic waste
Developing numerical codes and tools for the pre-sizing of incinerators and parameter optimization, in order to reduce pollutant-gas emissions from waste combustion.
